Ivan the Terrible

Well, Raya and I survived Hurricane Ivan. Lost power for about 50 hours, which was annoying but not a crisis. And, thanks to Bruce and Asher's hospitality, we didn't even have to sleep in a warm, dark house either night!!

Rosh Hashanah services were cancelled both days, which was a shame. As it turned out, Friday was fine -- TBE could have easily had services. But they had to make a decision on Wednesday, in order to get word to everyone. I can understand that.

And UAB closed down for all "non-essential" employees like me -- so a free four-day weekend!!

No damage to the house, lots of small-to-medium branches down in the yard, of course. And one limb on one of the front yard trees that's cracked, it'll have to be cut down at some point. But all in all, we were pretty lucky.

Gulf Shores, not so much. All kinds of devastation. But at least the Flora-Bama survived, although they've got a lot of repairs to do.

I love my new iBook. :)

OK, that's it. Back to the Dolphins game, although they'll probably find a way to make me scream at the TV. Much like the Gators did yesterday. Sigh.
