Back in black.....I hit the sack....it's been so long I'm glad to be back.....

So, as promised in yesterday's post, here I am, blogging.

Blog. Bloggity blog blog.

Over the years, my infrequent blogging has taken a variety of forms. Should I use the blog as a personal journal, filled with the minutiae of my life? Surely no one wants to read that; however, it is sort of entertaining for me, years down the road, to use old blog entries as sort of a "time capsule" and a way to remember things I'd long forgotten.

Or, should I only return to the keyboard when I'm outraged about something (usually a political something) and write a screed about whatever happens to be pissing me off that particular day?

Should I use this blog as a travelogue? A space for concert reviews, or film reviews? As a place to advertise our award-submitted podcast? (That last question is rhetorical, as "Jews in Alabama" is long-defunct.)

The short answer to this question, is that I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to use this blog for, and I'm not really looking for suggestions, though I'll happily take them.

I just know I need to use it for something. And whether or not anyone reads it is nearly irrelevant.

I need to write. I need to have somewhere I can brain-dump, get the random thoughts out of my head to make way for new random thoughts. I need a space where I can express witty, thought-provoking, and often just plain stupid ideas. Things that don't fit within a "tweet" or a Facebook status update.

My job doesn't give me too many creative outlets. I need this one.

So. What's happening in Eric world?

Sophie is a healthy and happy 3.5-year-old, normally with the temperament of an angel. But when that "devilish" side comes around, look out!!! Raya says she has my temper, quick to fly off the handle. BUT THAT'S TOTAL FUCKING BULLSHIT, BECAUSE I NEVER DO THAT, GODDAMNNIT....

Oh, wait.

We really enjoyed Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services this year at Temple Emanu-El, our second year there. The "contemporary" high holiday services that TEE provides are really, without question, the most enjoyable high holiday services I've ever attended. (Granted, I've only been Jewish for 10 years, but still.)

I'm now into my third year doing the graphic design for Emanu-El's monthly bulletin. (So I guess I do have one creative outlet, anyway.) I enjoy the work, and it finances our membership there, so that's nice!

Sukkot starts this Friday night, and once again, we'll be building our sukkah on our backyard deck. My favorite of all the Jewish holidays, maybe because it's celebrated generally at home, outside, and during the fall, my favorite time of year!!

Our friend JJ may be stopping by for a short visit tomorrow, en route from San Francisco to Florida in his VW camper van. Good times.

Came back from Vegas last Wednesday. My 16th trip to Vegas, and I only went for the first time in January 2003. Hard to believe. I'll be back there in January for the chaos known as the Consumer Electronics Show.

And with that, back to work.....
